Cleaner gets 18 years' jail, 15 strokes for sexually assaulting 7 boys

SINGAPORE - A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years' jail and 15 strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting seven young boys over the course of a year and a half.

Azmanshah Zailamshah, who worked as a cleaner, would go to Tiong Bahru Plaza arcade game centre and make friends with young boys. He would then bring them to secluded or confined areas using food and drinks as lures.

He then committed indecent acts on the victims, aged 11 to 13.

In 2001, Azmanshah was jailed 12 years on a previous conviction of having carnal intercourse against the order of nature on three young boys.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fu Qijing argued that Azmanshah was a persistent and habitual paedophilic offender and asked the court to impose more than two consecutive sentences.

He further argued that Azmanshah's acts were pre-meditated and calculated and that he showed no remorse for his actions.

Azmanshah had pleaded guilty to seven charges of sexual abuse. Nine other charges were taken into consideration during the sentencing.
