A Youtube video of a dermatologist in India extracting numerous maggots from a young patient's ear has gone viral on the Internet.

In the video, a close-up shot reveals a mass of white maggots squirming in the patient's ear canal.

The patient has been diagnosed with aural myiasis, a condition in which fly larvae infest a person's ears.

Young children and the elderly are most susceptible to this parasitic infestation and usually complain of a buzzing sound in their ears.

The maggots are known to feed on the host's flesh and may eat into the brain tissue if the condition is left untreated.

Dr Vikram Yadav, who did the extraction, advises the public to cover a sleeping child or elderly person's face with a cloth in bedrooms with houseflies flying around to prevent the insects from laying legs in their orifices.
