Doctors remove over 20 lice from Chinese woman's eye

A woman from China was horrified to learn that her itching and swollen eye was infested with lice, Chinese media reported.

On July 20, Madam Zhang was hospitalised at a hospital in Shandong after suffering a stroke.

People.cn reported that during her hospital stay, she started to feel discomfort in her red and swollen left eye and thought she had an infection.

Two days later, the itch became unbearable so Madam Zhang asked her son to inspect her eye.

He was shocked to see something moving on her eyelid and immediately sent her to an eye specialist for help.

According to a report by China News, Dr Bao attended to Madam Zhang and noticed a layer of white discharge along her lashline.

He also found that numerous lice had infested the patient's eyelid.

Dr Bao said that the lice were white and almost unnoticeable during the checkup, and commented that a lice infestation on the eyelid was very rare.

With the assistance of a nurse, over 20 lice were extracted from Madam Zhang's eye using a pair of forceps.

After the extraction, Dr Bao sterilised the patient's eye. She is reported to be recovering well after the incident.
