SINGAPORE - The Board of the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) will have a new chairman starting from Jan 1, 2012.

Professor John Wong Eu Li, who is a medical oncologist-haematologist by training, will take over from Professor Edison Liu, whose term ends on Dec 31, 2011.

Prof Wong is the Vice Provost (Academic Medicine) of the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Deputy Chief Executive of the National University Health System (NUHS), and Director of the National University Cancer Institute Singapore (NCIS).

He is also the first recipient of the Isabel Chan Professorship in Medical Sciences, which is a professorship dedicated to the advancement of healthcare in Singapore.

Prof Wong has previously held the position of Dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

He has been actively involved in the establishment of Singapore's first academic health system linking NUH and the NUS medical, dental, and nursing schools under one unified governance structure.

The Ministry of Health and HSA gave thanks to Professor Liu for his invaluable contributions and mentorship during his five-year term.

Prof Liu, who is also the Executive Director of the Genome Institute of Singapore, joined the HSA Board in 2006 and became its chairman in 2007.
