SINGAPORE - The Centre for Enabled Living (CEL) officially opened its first one-stop shop located at City Square Mall today.
Named "Centre for Enabled Living at City Square Mall", it integrates under one roof information and referral services for persons needing care (PNCs) and their caregivers.
The four service partners co-located the centre are Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA), NTUC Eldercare, St Luke's ElderCare and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society.
Between them, they run a comprehensive range of disability, eldercare and caregiver support services, which allows customers more choice in their care options.
CEL has also teamed up with a retail partner, Lifeline Corporation, to sell a range of assistive devices, health-care, social-care and lifestyle products which will enable PNCs to live independently.
Other partners include YAH! Community College, whose members will be volunteering at the centre to give back to the community, and the Agency for Integrated Care, which CEL is working with to develop the Singapore Silver Pages v2.0 to make caregiving and eldercare information easily available.
A Singapore Silver Pages resource corner will also be set up at the centre.
By locating the centre within a family and disabled friendly mall, CEL aims to make services for PNCs and their caregivers accessible while at the same time bringing the concept of social inclusiveness into the mainstream community.
"An important part of our role is to deliver services to PNCs and caregivers in a more accessible and effective manner. Having a shop-front at City Square Mall provides us with an excellent opportunity to bring these services right into the midst of the community," said Henry Quake, Chief Executive of CEL.
The Centre is equipped with two family-oriented consultation rooms designed to facilitate family discussions with CEL service consultants. Another two consultation rooms are fitted with video conferencing facilities so that CEL and its partners can provide remote consultation if required.
Members of public can look forward to attending caregiver training sessions by service providers at the centre's training room. Caregivers can also receive hands-on practice using the beds, wheelchairs and other assistive devices displayed in the hub instead of the traditional classroom training.
The centre is operational every day from 10 am to 10pm, including public holidays.
