KOTA KINABALU - A stint with National Service may just be the answer for youths with weight issues.
The National Service Training Council is planning to introduce a new module to enable trainees to manage their weight, its chairman Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe said.
The council is planning to introduce the module by the third NS intake later this year, he said after visiting camps in Kota Belud and Tuaran here yesterday.
"We will be bringing the matter to the Defence Minister before implementing it," he said, adding that the three-week module was to enable over or underweight trainees to achieve an ideal body weight.
He believed this new module would have a positive impact on trainees in the long term.
He said the module would be formulated with input from the Health Ministry as well as nutritionists.
Meanwhile, Dr Tiki said improvements to the nationalism modules were done after taking into account current needs and challenges.
These include the staging of various activities such as a mock general election to expose trainees to the nation's electoral process.
During the visit, Dr Tiki joined 262 NS trainees at the firing range.
Also present were Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Ahmad and National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil.
