Over 8,000 female racers at Shape Run 2012

SINGAPORE - Shape Run 2012, the seventh edition of Singapore's first women-only running race, concluded successfully this morning at Nicoll Highway. Organised by Shape Singapore, a publication of SPH Magazines Pte Ltd, the event included two novel firsts this year - a new non-competitive 2.4km category and male pacers to help runners achieve their goal timings.

Carolyn Pryor topped the 10km race category in 39 mins 52 secs, coming in approximately one minute ahead of the second runner up. The 33 year-old Project Manager from the Banking & Finance sector won herself $1,000 cash prize along with $13,000 worth of products and services.

Carolyn Pryor said: "It was a very good first experience, and the vibe was great. I'm looking forward to taking part in Shape Run again next year."

Finishing first in the 5km race category was Suzanne Walsham, who clocked an impressive timing of 17 mins 29 secs. She bagged $500 in cash prize as well as products and services worth $12,000. Suzanne was also the champion of the 10km category in the second and third editions of Shape Run in 2007 and 2008.

The 38 year-old Accountant at an IT software company said: "This is my fourth Shape Run, but it's my first time participating in the 5km category. Shape Run is one of my favourite races as it's always very well organised."

Previous winners for Shape Run 2011 in the 10km and 5km race categories were Eunice Nyawira Muchiri with a timing of 34 mins 21 seconds and Jenny Lundgren with a timing of 18 mins 04 secs respectively.

Participants were treated to drinks and refreshments upon completion of the run, as well as opportunities to sample various merchandise presented at the race site.

Each finisher also took home a Runner's Kit - a Shape sports bag filled with beauty and health products and vouchers, nutritious snacks, spa vouchers, fitness trial passes and many other freebies. They also received a commemorative finisher's medal, and will have a race certificate with their personal timing posted to them.

Li Yuling, Editor of Shape, said: "Since Shape Run started in 2006 as the first all-women run in Singapore, it has grown tremendously. This year, we introduced the 2.4km category and male pacers to improve the race experience. Many of the participants did well and outran the pacers. It's inspiring to see more women challenging themselves, and Shape is proud to play a part in promoting a healthy, active lifestyle."

Diana Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: "Shape Run 2012 is a brilliant success. We couldn't have hoped for better weather and the energy of the crowd is amazing. Our women runners have fared extremely well, and it appears the male pacers have made a positive difference. Also very well-received were the activities at the end point, with participants enjoying the healthy snacks and other exciting offerings from our sponsors. Everyone can look forward to an even bigger and better run next year."
