SINGAPORE - Swedish furniture retailer Ikea withdrew its almond cake from its restaurants in 23 countries after Chinese quarantine authorities said the batch it had received contained coliform bacteria, normally present in faecal matter.

In a statement today, Ikea Singapore said that they have conducted a check, and did not receive the affected batches of almond cake.

The cakes will continue to be sold at its branches in Alexandra and Tampines. However, concerned customers can return the cake for a refund.

Ms Sandra Keasberry, Ikea Singapore's Asst Advertising and Public Relations Manager, said: "We would like to assure our customers that IKEA Singapore is committed to serving high quality food that is safe, healthy and produced with care for the environment."
