KL man detained for allegedly insulting Johor Sultan on FB

JOHOR BARU - Police have detained a 42-year-old man for posting a social media statement deemed offensive against the Johor royal family.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said that the suspect was detained at a house in Bandar Baru Sentul in Kuala Lumpur at about 9.45pm on Tuesday.

"The man was detained for making offensive remarks against the Johor Ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, on Facebook.

"We also seized a mobile phone and a SIM card, believed to have been used to upload the sensitive comment," he told reporters after launching the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (Eksa) programme at the state police contingent headquarters here Wednesday.

He added that the suspect would be brought down from Kuala Lumpur, and police would apply for a remand in court here later before proceeding with investigations.
