Dyson beauty lab in Funan offers free hair makeovers - and other places in Singapore for free beauty services

Dyson's founder has put himself in the spotlight recently by snapping up Singapore's priciest penthouse for $73.8million.

Just a day after that, the British brand is making its rounds again on the internet, this time for opening its first-ever Dyson Demo Beauty Lab in Singapore on July 11, offering free styling and customisation services.

I've heard countless good reviews about the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and Dyson Airwrap Styler and have been itching to try them out. But I'm having a tough time convincing myself to shell out $599 - $649 on a piece of personal care tech.

If you're like me, the Dyson beauty lab lets you try out and compare the two sets before making a (hopefully) sound investment.

Located in the newly opened Funan, an on-site professional Dyson stylist will be able to answer any questions about the Supersonic hair dryer and Airwrap.

You'll get to have a hands-on demo on how the personal care technology works, and a low-down on how to get luscious locks and create different hairstyles.

The styling stations let you try out the tools. Only the dry styling is available at the moment, where you can kick back, relax over a cup of coffee and watch your hair transform.

Wet-to-dry styling is currently in the pipeline, and it's something I'm looking forward to, because wet tresses are sometimes so difficult to control (Read: tangles).

Complimentary styling by Dyson is by appointment only and on a first come first served basis. There's no obligation to buy one either.

To make the Dyson personal care technology uniquely yours, The Dyson demo beauty lab is the first store that offers customisation for its products too.

You'll be able to personalise your Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and Airwrap in your favourite colourway, and keep it in a case in the colour of your choice.

OTHER PLACES WITH FREE MAKEOVERS

Don't we all wish the Fab Five from Queer Eye would grace us with their magical makeovers? But I doubt they are coming to Singapore anytime soon.

So instead of waiting fruitlessly, here are other places with a free makeover to help you look on point.

SEPHORA

Sephora offers a free 15-minute flash makeover session that focuses on a single facial feature.

Learn how to get the perfect foundation shade for your skin tone or how to get a smoky eye during the session.

ETUDE HOUSE

Apart from buying makeup, did you know you can get your nails done at selected Etude House outlets too?

If you're a member, get a free manicure session at Etude House when you redeem your membership points at the Wisma Atria and Vivo City branch.

DIOR

Try out Dior's new range of products at a 20-minute flash makeover session. The session includes a free skin consultation and then matching your skin tone to the right colour shade.

Besides the flash makeover, if you're having a bad brow day, there is a 10-minute service with Dior's beauty therapist to give you tips on how to shape your eyebrows and thicken them without looking silly.

This service is only available at the Dior counter at Shilla Duty-Free Beauty Loft, Changi Airport Terminal 3.

ORIGINS

Though this isn't exactly a makeover, give your skin a quick pick-me-up when you pop by any Origins counter for a mini facial.

The brand's beauty advisor will be happy to pick out products suited for your skin type. The free session includes a face scrub, a face mask, a face massage and a thorough skincare regime after, to leave your skin looking refreshed and pampered.
