The year is almost ending but thanks to Covid-19, plans to travel overseas for a well-deserved holiday is starting to feel more impossible than ever (boo-hoo!). But don’t despair, there’s still a place in Singapore where you can have your fun under the sun, and by that, we obviously mean Sentosa. 

Yes, it may not have crystal clear waters like the Maldives or sand as soft as the Flamenco Beach in Puerto Rico, but Sentosa has its own charm and it’s pretty much the closest thing to island paradise we have for now.

So, if you’re planning for a family trip to visit attractions or gathering with friends at a beach club, here’s how much you can expect to pay for entrance and parking fees. We’ve also thrown in some hacks on how to save.

Sentosa island’s entrance fees

 

You might be wondering, ‘Why are there admission fees to Sentosa? It’s not a park or attraction per se?’ Well, think of it this way — this entrance fee includes all the monorail, bus and beach shuttle rides that you will likely use to get around the island. 

For those looking for ways to save on entrance fees, you’ll be glad to hear that to encourage more visitors to the island, Sentosa has waived entrance fees regardless of your chosen method of entry from now till March 31, 2021 — more reason to start planning a beach day.

Hacks to save on entrance fees

1. Walking, instead of taking any transport, is the cheapest way to get into Sentosa, and a great way to clock your daily steps at that. On a good day, it will take you no longer than 15 minutes to cross the Sentosa Boardwalk. Sheltered, ventilated and equipped with travelators, the Sentosa Boardwalk leads you directly from VivoCity (exit near Paradise Teochew restaurant) to the heart of Resorts World Sentosa. 
2. Heading to Sentosa for a wedding or staycation? Remember to have the invitation or confirmation email at the ready. For those travelling by road, present your invitation or confirmation slip to get your entrance fee waived at the gantry. And for those travelling by Sentosa Express (monorail), simply present the invitation or confirmation slip to the service staff at the VivoCity station for free entry.

Is free parking on Sentosa possible?

Contrary to popular belief, you can actually find free parking on Sentosa! To be specific, at Sentosa Golf Club and Sentosa Costa Sands Resort, but the only issue is that they are located off the beaten track and would require a fair amount of walking to get to the nearest beach shuttle station. 

For the sake of convenience and taking affordability into account, we suggest that you pick a car park managed by Sentosa instead. They are mostly larger (which means more available parking lots), but also strategically located near monorail stations, bus stops or beach shuttle stops that will connect you to attractions, hotels or beaches on the island. 

Pro-tip: Whichever car park you pick, just don’t park at any of the Resorts World Sentosa car parks as they charge a minimum of $7 (the equivalent of an entire McDonald’s Extra Value Meal) for the first hour. 

Hacks to save on parking fees

1. If you frequent Sentosa or visit at least twice a year, consider applying for Sentosa’s Islander membership. For just $25 a year, you get free 2-hour parking at the Beach Station (worth $2.40) every month, free entrance fee if you’re driving into Sentosa, $20 cash vouchers on your birthday month, bring a friend for free when travelling by Sentosa Express and more. 
2. Attending a wedding or having a staycation in Sentosa? Request for a complimentary parking coupon from the host or front counter before you leave, or shell out over $20 for a night of parking. 

Sentosa beach reservation

To prevent overcrowding at beaches, Sentosa has implemented an online reservation system. This system helps reduce queues and facilitates entry to Palawan, Siloso and Tanjong beach on weekends and public holidays (reservation is not needed on weekdays).

When making the reservation you’ll be given a choice between the morning slot that lasts from 8am to 1pm (perfect for a tanning session), or afternoon slot that lasts from 2pm to 7pm (picnics and perhaps a game of beach volley?). Limited slots are available and reservations open 5 days ahead of your intended beach visit.

Note: If you are planning to visit a beachfront restaurant or beach club during your Sentosa trip, a beach reservation is not needed.
