IPOH - A 12-year-old girl survived after falling from the third floor of her school building in Khantan, near here yesterday.

Ipoh Deputy OCPD Supt Anuar Othman said a school security guard told police that he had seen the girl walking into her class before the 6.15am incident.

However, the next thing he heard was a loud thud. He saw the girl lying on the grass when he went to check.

He said she was still conscious but in a lot of pain.

"He called out to another guard for help before calling the ambulance.

"The school's student affairs teacher was also informed about the matter," he said.

Supt Anuar said the girl, who was believed to have fractured her right hand, was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment.

It is learnt that the girl attempted suicide but the reasons for doing so were still being investigated.
