According to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, 14 people were injured and taken to hospital but one of them died later.

GOPENG - Fourteen people, including 12 express bus passengers, were injured in a three-vehicle accident on the North-South Expressway near here.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the driver of the double-decker bus is believed to have rammed his vehicle into the back of a trailer transporting paper. Unable to brake in time, a container lorry then smashed right into the rear of the bus, he said.

"Rescuers who arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call at about 5.40am on Wednesday found the three male and nine female passengers still inside the bus with serious injuries.

"The bus driver managed to pull himself out of the wreckage," the spokesman said, adding that all those injured were rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.

The bus is believed to have been travelling from Singapore to Ipoh, Bernama reported.
