KUALA LUMPUR - The audit report of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was classified under the Official Secrets Act 1972(OSA) to ensure that information divulged during Public Accounts Committee (PAC) proceedings was not leaked.

In a written Parliamentary reply, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic) clarified that the audit report on 1MDB was specifically for the PAC's reference.

When asked why Parliamentarians were not given the audit report, Azalina said only PAC had access to it.

"As said, the audit report on 1MDB was only presented to the PAC following unanimous agreement by the Cabinet on March 4.

"The PAC then used the audit report as a reference to prepare its report on the management of the company, and this report was later tabled in Parliament," she said.

Earlier, Raub MP Datuk Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz had asked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak why the audit report had been classified under the OSA and not made accessible to Parliamentarians.

The PAC report on 1MDB was tabled in Parliament on April 7, which found that the Prime Minister not guilty of any wrongdoing.
