JOHOR BARU: A man and a teenage girl have been picked up in connection with the murder of an alleged secret society leader at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi here.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the special task force team, set up to investigate the murder, arrested the suspects aged 22 and 19 at about 2.30am yesterday.
"Their arrests are to facilitate the investigation into the murder case, which is still ongoing," he said here yesterday.
However, he declined to elaborate on the arrests, saying the matter was still under investigation.
"This has affected our investigations and our focus to catch the suspects and bring them to justice," he added.
Comm Mohd Khalil warned that anyone found to have been spreading fake news can be jailed two years or fined or both upon conviction.
On Sunday, the 44-year-old man, identified only as Ah Chiu, was savagely attacked by four men at the petrol station along Jalan Sri Pelangi here.
Ah Chiu's wake was held at Nirvana Memorial Park along Jalan Skudai-Gelang Patah here. He will be buried in Melaka today.
