2 Chinese nationals swept out to sea

KEMAMAN - Two Chinese nationals are missing and feared drowned when they were dragged by a wave while posing for pictures at Teluk Kalong beach here yesterday.

In the 4pm incident, Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd workers Zhang Xuefeng, 39, and Zhang Xuefeng, 45, were swept out to sea by a huge wave as they were standing on a rock to pose for a picture.

They were swimming with six friends.

Kemaman deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent Risikin Satiman said one of them got stuck between the rocks before he was dragged into the sea by another wave.

He said 22 policemen and 16 firefighters from the Chukai Fire station were sent to the scene for the search and rescue operation.

" Huge waves and darkness forced us to stop the operation at 7pm.

"However, we will resume our search and rescue operation at 7am today."
