2 die as vehicle bursts into flames after crash in Johor

PONTIAN: Two people were burnt to death and two others injured in an accident involving two vehicles at KM51 along Jalan Johor Baru-Bandar Pontian here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Zakaria Abd Rahman said police have yet to get the identities of the deceased as the vehicle and any possible documentation were completely destroyed in the fire.

He said investigations revealed that the driver had lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane during the 12.30am incident on Wednesday.

"They had rammed into another vehicle, causing both cars to burst into flames," he said in a statement.

He said the driver and the passenger in the first vehicle were burnt to death while the two victims from the other vehicle, aged 20 and 21, suffered cuts on their bodies.

Supt Zakaria said the deceased were sent to Pontian Hospital for post-mortem exmainations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
