PETALINGA JAYA - Two opposition MPs have dismissed allegations by Lester Melanyi that implicated them in a conspiracy to falsify information about 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said that his lawyers have initiated legal proceedings against Lester over the former Sarawak Tribune editor's video expose.
"Lester Melanyi has via his two videos to date directly accused me of conspiring with other parties, foreign and local to fabricate and falsify information about 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in order to 'cheat and lie' to achieve whatever alleged objectives.
"He will receive a letter of demand from my lawyers this week and will have seven days to retract and apologise for his widely publicised video statement," Pua said in a statement on Monday.
He added that he was stunned by Lester's confession as he had never met the former editor.
"I was stunned because I've never known or heard of a 'Lester Melanyi' in my entire life before the first video, much less 'communicated' with him!" he said.
PKR's Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who was also mentioned by Lester in his video expose, meanwhile said that he believes the ex-Sarawak Tribune editor's confession to be false and motivated by profit.
He added that Barisan Nasional's Strategic Communications Director Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan should apologise for disseminating false information.
"The authorities, including the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should investigate Lester Melanyi to find out the mastermind who paid him to disseminate false allegations because they are disrupting the investigations," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
