29 anti-GST protestors remanded for 2 days

PETALING JAYA - Police have remanded 29 people in connection with an Anti-GST rally at Federal Customs headquarters on Monday.

Among those remanded were PSM central committee member and Sungai Siput MP Dr D. Michael Jeyakumar, secretary-general S. Arutchelvan and youth chief K. S. Bawani and PAS Kuala Krai MP Dr Hatta Ramli.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Azmi Abu Kassim said police were investigating the group under Section 353 of the penal code for allegedly using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty.

"Those arrested in the Customs headquarters are also being investigated under Section 143 of the Penal Code for illegal gathering," he said.

ACP Azmi confirmed however that former UiTM activist Khalid Ismath was released after the remand order for him was rejected.
