KOTA KINABALU - Three people were burnt to death in two separate fires in Menggatal and Tuaran, on Friday.
In Menggatal town, two people, believed to be sundry shop workers, perished when a fire engulfed a row of shophouses at around 1.30am.
The charred remains of the victims, two men, aged 20 and 43, were found in one of the shophouses.
A total of six shops were destroyed in the incident.
In Tuaran, another blaze claimed the life of a 97-year-old man.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Affendy Ramin said firemen found the charred remains of Pukimin Yokomo inside a burnt-out semi-wooden house at Kampung Sungai Damit in Tuaran at about 9.50am, Friday.
Affendy said the fire had broken out at about 9am. Ten firemen in two fire engines arrived at the scene 16 minutes later.
He said the fire destroyed the house in a matter minutes.
