KOTA KINABALU: At least three people were killed following a collision between a car and an express bus with 25 people on board that ended with both vehicles plunging 30m into a ravine along the Tamparuli-Ranau trunk road at 3.45pm yesterday.

All those on board the bus, including two drivers and a conductor, suffered injuries. They were reported to be in critical condition.

Although officials have yet to release the identities of the dead, acting Kota Belud chief Asst Supt Jaujani Jubin said they included a 49-year-old woman and her brother, 39, who were inside the car.

He also said a 26-year-old male friend of the siblings was killed but declined to provide further details pending positive identification.

All three died at the scene, said ASP Jaujani, adding that investigations into the cause of the accident were being carried out.

Rescuers reported that at least a dozen people were injured and did not rule out more fatalities as they continue to pull out people from the vehicles.

The mishap occurred near Kampung Kiau, about 70km from here.

The bus was said to have been travelling from the east coast town of Tawau to Kota Kinabalu when the accident occurred.
