PUTRAJAYA - Four people, including a married couple, met a tragic end when their vehicle ploughed into a tree at KM9.9 of the Elite Highway as they were heading back to Banting, Selangor.

Subang Jaya traffic police chief Deputy Supt Azman Shariat said they were travelling in a group of seven from Subang Jaya when the vehicle skidded to the left side of the road and crashed into a tree at about 5.40am yesterday.

The vehicle was completely wrecked.

Driver Tan Eng Deng, 27, his wife Lim Siew Thing, 25, and two passengers identified as Lim Siew Peng, 26, and Tan Loon Ping, 27, died on the spot. Siew Thing and Siew Peng were sisters.

DSP Azman said three male passengers, aged between 20 and 27, were critically injured.

The passengers were identified as Lim Pan Yong, 27, Tan Chun Keng, 27, and Tan Wei Ann, 20.

"All seven victims were sent to Hospital Putrajaya," he said.

DSP Azman revealed that the post-mortem was conducted at 11am at the hospital.

"We will be running tests for alcohol levels in the blood," he said, when asked whether inebriation, sleepiness or fatigue had caused the accident.

"The road at the scene of the accident was not sandy, the weather was good and the place was well-lit," he said.

Family members of the victims declined to be interviewed when approached by reporters at the Hospital Putrajaya mortuary.
