JOHOR BARU - Police have detained four suspects believed to have been involved in the ruckus that broke out during a DAP talk near Pasir Gudang here last week.
Seri Alam acting OCPD Deputy Supt Norazam Saari said that police detained the four suspects, aged between 29 years and 54 years old, at around 1pm on Wednesday.
"Investigations are being carried out under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 147 of the same code for rioting.
"We have been actively conducting investigations to identify the group that had caused the commotion," he said in a statement here on Thursday.
It was reported that a group of men had barged into a coffee shop at Taman Megah Ria, where DAP leaders including party adviser Lim Kit Siang and Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong were holding a talk.
Apart from hurling vulgarities, the intruders had reportedly thrown brooms, cups and plates and flipped the tables in the shop when Liew allegedly touched on Umno-related issues during his speech.
DSP Norazam also warned the public including members of political parties that the police will not hesitate to enforce the law on those found to be disturbing the peace and safety of the public.
"We are not going to tolerate with any party that disrupts public order and stern action will be taken on those who participate in such riots," he said.
He added that police would be completing investigation as soon as possible before a report is submitted to the public prosecution office for further actions.
