400 had a scare as Langkawi ferry caught fire while departing

LANGKAWI: ‎About 400 passengers had a scare when the kitchen of Langkawi ferry caught fire while departing Kuah Jetty to Kuala Perlis at 5pm. ‎

Passengers of the Ekspress Bahagia were told to step out of the ferry by the crew seconds after its emergency alarm triggered.

The incident caused a slight panic as the passengers rushed their way out through the two exit doors, but the crew managed to keep the situation under control.

Initial checks showed that the ferry's kitchen had caught a small fire.

‎The stranded passengers resumed their journey to Kuala Perlis in another ferry about an hour later.
