6 Umno delegates injured in hotel fire

KUDAT - Six Umno members survived with injuries after they jumped from the third floor to escape their burning hotel on Thursday evening.

Two suffered fractures while the rest sustained injuries.

The fire, which occurred at 5.50pm, also spread to seven other shoplots on the same block.

The two seriously injured victims were Rahimah Bilang, 60, and Harun Majid, 59.

Both had been sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for treatment while the four others, Aziz Ahmad, 48, Hassan Malib, 35, Jaimah Bakang, 47 and Dalah Harun, 63, were warded at the district hospital for observation.

Kudat Wanita Umno chief Datuk Aminah Ambrose yesterday said the six had come for the party divisional meeting and elections today.

"The group who stayed at the hotel were from branches in the Kanibongan area and coastal villages," she said, adding that senior party leaders would be assisting the victims, who lost everything in the fire.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operation Centre chief Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said all the victims were injured when they jumped to escape the fire.
