60-year-old civil servant allegedly made fake claims for food

JOHOR BARU - A 60-year-old civil servant allegedly made claims for food and beverages for an event that never took place.

He was hauled up for questioning by investigators from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and was arrested in Ledang, about 160km from here, at around 11am yesterday.

The officer, it is learnt, gave statements on five government-organised programmes that allegedly featured local community leaders.

He was said to have approved RM6,500 (S$2,505)  for the claims pertaining to the event that was never held.

Contacted here, Johor MACC director Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the man had been arrested.

If convicted, the officer faces a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the bribe amount, whichever is higher.
