KOTA TINGGI, Malaysia - A seven-year-old boy died in hospital on Friday, five days after he was believed to have been abused by his father at their home here.
The boy was sent to the hospital after he was found unconscious on March 7 and succumbed to internal cranial injuries five days later.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman said that the boy's father, a 36-year-old chef, had claimed that his son had fallen in the bathroom and suffered three seizures.
"The boy was rushed to the Kota Tinggi Hospital by ambulance at about 10pm on March 7 and an initial physical examination showed that the boy's head was swollen.
"As he was in critical condition, the boy was sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for further treatment," he said in a statement here on Tuesday.
He added that the father was arrested after the hospital lodged a police report on the suspected abuse.
