TAWAU: The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has allocated RM200mil (S$74.3 million) to implement the Housing Aid Programme (PBR) throughout the country.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said of this total, RM50.2mil was for Sabah and RM50mil for Sarawak.
"The allocation covers the construction of 2,756 units of new houses and refurbishing 5,744 homes throughout the country.
"We have already identified and received the list of families that will receive the housing aid.
"Each house is priced at RM50,000 and some houses have already been constructed," he told reporters after a ceremony to present aid to fire victims in Kampung Sentosa, Hill Top, here yesterday.
To ensure the PBR was implemented efficiently and holistically, he said the ministry would ensure all aid recipients had the sites to build their homes.
"Site preparation is very important ... we do not want problems to arise when the house is completed because the site to build the homes belongs to other people.
"That is why we are asking the state governments to resolve the problem of the sites so that the programme can be implemented efficiently," he said.
