Perak welfare authorities rescued a grandmother who was locked in a house without food for four days, reported Sinar Harian.
The 55-year-old woman claimed that her son left her without food while her daughter-in-law manhandled her.
The woman's plight came to light after a concerned neighbour lodged a report with the village head when he did not see her for a week.
A check of the rented house in Lembah Beriah, Bukit Merah, showed that the woman sleping on the bare floor in an unfurnished room.
The daily also reported that the son claimed that his mother was mentally ill.
Kerian Welfare Department officer Noor Kamaruzzaman Abdul Hamid said they would take action under Domestic Violence Act if there were any elements of abuse.
The woman was taken to Parit Buntar Hospital for a check up.
