Access to popular porn website blocked in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA - Popular pornography website RedTube has been blocked by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

According to social media users, access to website has been blocked since Dec 19 with Internet users redirected to a page with a warning that reads: "This website is not available in Malaysia as it violates national law".

The Star Online, however, found that the website can still be accessed via different methods like proxy servers, mirror sites and changing a computer's DNS (Domain Name System).

The MCMC has long attempted to curb pornography, often informing the public of its ills and the fact that it is illegal in Malaysia.

According to the MCMC content code, obscene content gives rise to a feeling of disgust by reason of its lewd portrayal and is essentially offensive.

"There is every possibility of such content having a negative influence and corrupting the mind of those easily influenced," it reads. The content code also makes specific mention of child pornography, sexual degradation and explicit sex acts or pornography.
