KUALA LUMPUR - Kedah Mentri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has come to the defence of his father who has been accused as being the one behind the allegations over 1MDB against the Prime Minister.

Mukhriz said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed would under no circumstances be involved in such situations as to swindle, distort facts or even edit e-mails.

"Those are very unjust accusations," he said.

"The latest - there are allegations that my father is involved with (Xavier Andre) Justo to change documents.

"If it is unfair to accuse the party leadership, it is also unfair to accuse my father," he said during a breaking of fast event in PWTC on Sunday night.

A video of his speech was uploaded onto Youtube by a user named minaq jinggo yesterday.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been a strong critic of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over allegations against 1MDB.

Recently, Najib had singled out Dr Mahathir for the "latest lie" after The Wall Street Journal's report claiming that US$700mil (S$946 million) in deposits had been channelled into his personal bank accounts.

Mukhriz said Umno should be united even when faced with problems.

"What we need is the truth. I have no doubts over my loyalty for the leadership. The questions raised must be answered too so that we know what we are supporting," he said.
