BALIK PULAU - A petrol sniffing addict is believed to have killed his 63-year-old mother and dumped her in a septic tank.
The incident came to light after police recovered the body of Faridah Mat Hashim, who suffered injuries to her neck, at Sungai Burung here on Monday (Sept 24).
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said the woman is believed to have died several days ago.
"The woman's son in-law found the body in the septic tank and alerted the police," said he said to newsmen at the murder site.
He added that there was an earlier report lodged by the son-in-law about the missing woman.
Supt Anbalagan said the 29-year-old suspect who was staying with the mother was still at large.
The suspect has a previous police record for violence.
"We also found a blood-stained knife near the septic tank believed to be the murder weapon," he said.
Penang Hospital personnel were called in to help retrieve the body from the septic tank which was situated at the back of the house.
Supt Anbalagan said the daughter and son-in-law who was staying in the same house were not at home during the incident.
