Anonymous letter leads to arrest of killer wife

An anonymous letter sent to Bangalore police led to the arrest of a housewife over her husband's death.

Ishtiaq Ahmed, 38, who worked as a driver, was found dead in his village home on March 26, Tamil Nesan reported.

It was seen as a "natural" death and he was given funeral rites the same day.

However, police received the anonymous letter last week which said there were nail marks on Ishtiaq's neck.

When policemen summoned Ashrafunnisa, 26, and grilled her, she confessed to having an affair with someone from their neighbourhood.

Ishtiaq had found out about it and the couple had often quarrelled over it.

As it turned out, Ishtiaq was in a semi-conscious condition after taking some medication on that fateful day. Ashrafunnisa and her lover and two other friends decided to smother him to death.

Neighbours did not suspect anything as they knew he had some health problems.

Following Ashrafunnisa's confession, police exhumed her husband's body for further investigations.

Her accomplices were also arrested.
