Anwar moved to prison's hospital wing

PETALING JAYA - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been moved to the hospital wing of the Sungai Buloh prison, Prisons Department deputy director Supri Hashim said.

He said that Anwar had been placed in hospital after having been examined by doctors.

"This happened before he was visited by Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali on Feb 25," he said in a statement on Monday.

He, however, did not disclose the exact date nor reason Anwar was warded.

Supri's statement was in response to certain allegations with regard to Anwar's treatment in prison since he began his sentence on Feb 10.

The statement noted that services and facilities were the same for all prisoners and in accordance with prison regulations.

Supri added that Azmin's visit had followed proper procedure, and that the department had received an application which stated that the visit was in relation to Anwar's role as Selangor economic adviser.

Anwar's family and lawyers had earlier expressed concern that the conditions in his prison cell could aggravate an existing spine condition.
