Anwar's wife Wan Azizah gets warm response

KEPALA BATAS - PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says she is encouraged by the warm response she has received from the people in Permatang Pauh.

"My meeting with the people here is like a family reunion. I consider this a good journey for PKR, Insyaallah," she said at a news conference at Yayasan Aman in Penanti here yesterday.

Dr Wan Azizah said the response from the people showed that they still remembered Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. She said the by-election was not just to defend her husband but also others who were victimised.

Dr Wan Azizah takes on Barisan Nasional's Suhaimi Sabudin, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Azman Shah Othman and independent candidate Salleh Ishak in the May 7 by-election.

PKR election director Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said the party was still waiting for the Election Commission to make its decision on Anwar's eligibility to vote.

Meanwhile, Dengkil assemblyman Shahrum Mohd Sharif said Dr Wan Azizah had betrayed the people of Kajang by contesting in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

"The assemblyman in Kajang was chosen by the people but was asked to pave the way for her to contest there last year. After winning the seat, she's now contesting in Permatang Pauh," he said, adding that it was not the first time for the Opposition.
