PETALING JAYA - A 13-month-old baby girl was found drowned in a bucket of water on Monday.

The baby was found by her 34-year-old mother in the toilet of their home in Kampung Lombong in Shah Alam.

Prior to the 5.15am incident, the mother, who is a teacher, had just ironed her work clothes before returning to the master bedroom where the baby was supposed to be sleeping.

However, the toddler could not be found and the toilet door was wide open.

When she entered the toilet to look, she found her baby with her head submerged in a bucket of water.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said the baby was immediately rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

"There was no physical injury on the baby.

"The case has been classified as sudden death based on the post-mortem result," he said.

The incident comes days after a one-year-old baby boy drowned in the toilet of his home in Jalan Sungai Dua in Gelugor, Penang.

According to Timur Laut district police, the incident happened at 10am when the mother had brought her child with her into the toilet to pass motion.

The mother then told her five-year-old daughter to look after her little brother while she went to get a towel.

When she returned, she was shocked to find her son's head submerged in a water bucket used for laundry.

The case was also classified as sudden death and with the autopsy report confirming that the baby died from drowning.
