Baby found dead in trash

MERSING, Malaysia - A baby with its umbilical cord still attached was found dead among a pile of trash at a dumping ground in Tanjung Merit Endau here.

Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt Zulkepli Hashim said that police was alerted by members of the public after it was discovered at the site around 9.30am on Monday.

"An orang asli was scavenging through the pile of trash when he stumbled upon the baby's body.

"It was wrapped in newspaper and placed in a plastic bag before it was dumped there," he said when contacted on Monday.

He added that investigations are underway and the case has been classified under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth.
