IPOH: The corpse of a newborn baby was found in a drain next to a barn behind the Politeknik Ungku Omar at Jalan Raja Musa Mahadi here Tuesday.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said that a post mortem that was conducted on Wednesday morning could not ascertain the gender and cause of death of the baby.
"The baby's remains were found by a member of the public who alerted the police.
"A post mortem was conducted by Dr Mohamad Shamson Muhamad Hamdan at the Ipoh Hospital's mortuary later.
"However, the gender and cause of death could not be determined because parts of the body and organs were missing.
"We believe it was bitten by animals because there were tearing marks on the thigh," he said here Wednesday (March 7).
The post-mortem ended at 10.30am, he said, adding that the cause of death was unascertained due to decomposition.
ACP Mohd Ali also called on midwives, private clinics or anyone who knows of any person who had just given birth to contact the police to facilitate investigations.
The case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body.
