PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has called on Malaysians to be patriotic and united so the country can defend itself from any form of threat.
The Prime Minister said the Government had put in place the best security measures possible to protect the country and people.
"At the same time, we remain committed to working with the international community, including the sharing of intelligence so that Malaysia remains safe and peaceful," he said in a message in the Internal Security Policy guidebook.
The guidebook was launched by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the ministry's monthly assembly yesterday.
Najib lauded the move to have objectives and strategies spelled out so that everyone was clear on the government's efforts to strengthen Malaysia's sovereignty, security, peace, prosperity and unity.
"Apart from existing policies and laws, my hope is for people from all walks of the society to work with the Government to combat any threats. If there is solidarity, God willing, we can tackle any challenges that come our way," he said.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said the security threats and risks in today's borderless world demanded Malaysia employ a comprehensive and strategic approach.
"The objective of this policy is to guarantee Malaysia's survival and her sovereignty, protect national cohesion, public order and political stability. Our aim is to ensure that the country will remain independent, peaceful and able to defend its national interest."
Zahid said the people have a crucial role to play in that they must be firmly united and be willing to defend the country against all enemies and threats.
The policy has eight strategic thrusts, including strengthening the parliamentary democracy system, defending the country's borders, tackling threats that can disrupt public order and protecting the country's critical assets, resources and infrastructure.
