GEORGE TOWN - A shirtless man wearing a bra with the words Bersih 4.0 on it during the Bersih rally in Kuala Lumpur has riled up the Penang Gerakan Wanita.

Its acting chairman Hartini Tan said the man had insulted the dignity and modesty of women.

"The bra is to protect an important part of a woman's body. It is definitely not a tool to be used to express discontentment against the government.

"We were astonished to see the half-naked man wearing the bra with Bersih 4.0 on it and having fun in the crowd.

"Yet no Bersih volunteers present at the scene stopped the unruly and disgusting behaviour of this man," she said in a press statement yesterday.

She asked women leaders and activists such as Maria Tan Abdullah, Ambiga Sreenevasan, Teresa Kok, Chong Eng and Hannah Yeo from the DAP, whether they condoned the man's behaviour.

She also urged the man to publicly apologise to women in the country.
