Blogger allegedly behind 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s critic attacks

PETALING JAYA - An anonymous blogger is said to be behind several online attacks directed at 1Malaysia Development Berhad's critics.

A report published in The Malaysian Insider yesterday said a blogger named "ahrily90" seemed to target, among others, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir and his family, along with The Edge Group owner Datuk Tong Kooi Ong.

"It all has to do with criticism of 1MDB. So who is paying him to do it?" said the report attributed to The Edge Malaysia.

Tong owns The Edge Media Group and The Malaysian Insider.

The report said the blogger was supportive of businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, said to be involved in the set-up of the Terengganu Investment Authority.

It said this company was the precursor to 1MDB and that Jho Low still had "considerable influence" over 1MDB, citing close ties with Abu Dhabi-based parties linked to 1MDB.

The report said the business newspaper had been publishing news on 1MDB matters over the past year.

Tong has denied claims by bloggers that he had taken position in the ringgit and financially gained from its depreciation.

The report indicated that "ahrily90" also wrote the article suggesting Tong's involvement in the shorting of the ringgit.
