PETALING JAYA - The wife of pro-opposition blogger Amizudin Ahmat claimed that her husband was subject to appalling living conditions in his cell during his imprisonment at Kajang Prison on charges of contempt of court.
"I was allowed to visit my husband on the third day of his arrest and saw that he was in a sad state.
"From the evening of his arrest until the day I saw him on the third day, he was not given a change of clothes," said Hamizah Che Amat, 44, during a press conference at the PKR headquarters on Wednesday.
She also claimed that food and sanitation levels were unacceptable.
On Jan 8, Amizudin, 44, was given a three-month jail sentence for contempt of court after he failed to obtain leave to appeal a case in relation to the publication of defamatory articles on former Information, Communication and Culture minister Ran Sri Dr Rais Yatim.
Despite the allegedly appalling state her husband is in, Hamizah still strongly supports her husband's cause.
"I feel proud to be his wife as he is a fighter. My husband fights not for himself but to protect others," she said.
According to head coordinator of Pakatan-linked group Jingga 13, Fariz Musa, who was also present at the press conference, Amizudin had to share a cell with nine criminals on the date of his arrest on Jan 3.
On Monday, pro-PKR blogger MiLo SuaM, or Yusuf Al Siddique Suratman was given the maximum sentence of 2 years imprisonment under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code by a Kota Kinabalu magistrate's court over posts concerning Lahad Datu in 2013.
Yusuf's case is now under appeal at the Kota Kinabalu High Court.
