KUALA LUMPUR - In a horrific incident, a 10-year-old boy was impaled by a steel rod at an abandoned construction site in Taman Ukay Indah, near here.
It was unclear how the steel rod got lodged in the boy's tailbone but a passer-by who saw the boy writhing in pain quickly called for help at 4.10pm on Monday.
It is believed the boy had gone to play at the site in Jalan Sungai Sering, not far from the flats where he stays.
Five rescuers from the Ampang fire station rushed to the scene to remove the rod from the boy's body.
"The firefighters cut through the steel rod using a power saw," said Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul.
"A portion of the rod is still lodged in the boy's tailbone. He is receiving treatment at the Ampang Hospital," he said.
Mohd Sani said the boy, who was not identified, was calm during the 30 minutes the rescuers took to cut through the rod.
