GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA- A 12-year-old boy from Tasek Gelugor has been admitted to a private hospital here after being suspected of having Japanese Encephalitis (JE).
The case is still under observation.
Though JE is suspected, it is yet to be confirmed by the Health Ministry and the State Health Department.
In a statement issued to the press on Monday, state Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said the state Veterinary Department has started their monitoring and will take blood samples from swine population around the area to find out more clearly if there is a JE infection.
"In light of this, steps of precaution must be taken.
"If there are continuous symptoms of fever, headache, nausea and vomiting that lasts, I suggest one to seek immediate treatment and consultation at one's nearest clinic or hospital," he said.
