KUALA LUMPUR: A 12-year-old boy could only watch helplessly as his two sisters struggled and eventually drowned in a swimming pool at a club near Taman Melawati here, Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad said.
The two sisters, aged 11 and 27, had gone swimming with their brother at the club at about 1pm on Sunday.
It is believed that the incident had occurred about an hour later as the two sisters were swimming in the deep end of the pool, measuring some 2m deep.
All three siblings were swimming with the aid of floats. According to reports, the float used by the elder sister had slipped, causing her to grab onto her younger sister before the two sank to the bottom of the pool.
Shocked, the brother called for help and several visitors rushed over and pulled the sisters out of the pool.
ACP Khairuldin said the two sisters were rushed to the nearest hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
Their bodies were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.
