Bullet-riddled car left in lane

GEORGE TOWN - Lebuh Mahsuri residents found an abandoned bullet-riddled car, in a service lane in their neighbourhood yesterday. The maroon Proton Persona was found with four bullet holes at 8am.

Three were in the back portion of the vehicle while another had penetrated the windscreen and hit the dashboard.

A police forensics team found 21.7g of heroin and 0.8g of methamphetamine at the footrest of the driver's seat, with a bullet slug next to it.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the forensics team believe the driver of the car was involved in a high-speed chase before the driver ran off.

"It looks like the person had driven on rough road surfaces, going by the extensive damage to the car's suspension and tyres."

Hatta said his men failed to locate the registered car owner, a 33-year-old man, with an address in Jelutong.

"We had gone to the registered owner's house, but his apartment unit seems to be deserted."

He said the car owner had no criminal record.

Hatta said residents did not hear any gunshot, and the car was unfamiliar to those living in the area.
