KUALA LUMPUR - A taxi driver drove through the wall of a multi-storey carpark and plunged from the first floor to the ground but cheated death. He walked away with minor injuries.
Witnesses, who declined to be identified, said the driver was believed to have just returned from a nearby pub when the incident occurred at Sun Complex in Bukit Bintang at 3am yesterday.
"He was drunk. He crashed into a wall after making the wrong turn to exit the building," said one witness.
He added that the authorities were alerted after the public heard a loud crash near the building.
City Fire and Rescue Department's assistant director of operations Azizan Ismail said a team of 11 firemen from the Hang Tuah fire station arrived about 10 minutes later.
"We had to pry open the vehicle as the driver was trapped in his seat. He only escaped with minor injuries and was given medical attention by a team from a nearby hospital," he said.
