A CALL to prayer (azan) saved the life of a housewife who was being strangled by her husband, reported Harian Metro.
The woman, 52, was beaten and strangled by her husband at their home in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, after asking for money to buy groceries.
She apologised when he lost his temper but that did not appease him.
"He then beat her and tried to strangle her. The wife fought hard for almost 15 minutes to be released," said a source.
However, the husband calmed down and let go of her after hearing the call to prayer.
"The azan made him realise his mistake. He rushed out of the house," said the source.
The wife then lodged a police report at the Pudu police station and was referred to a hospital after her statement was recorded.
"She had bruises on her body and neck," the source said.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed that he received the report.
