Cancer patient and daughter found dead in JB home
JOHOR BARU: A 45-year-old breast cancer patient, who was found hanged at home after allegedly strangling her daughter, had often complained of "headaches".
J. Sumathi, who had stage-four cancer, was discovered in a gym room of the house while her 10-year-old daughter K. Arthhinee was found lying motionless in a room upstairs on Thursday night.
Sumathi, who suffered from breast cancer, had often complained of her illness and condition, said a close family member who refused to be named.
"Since she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, she had undergone treatment and chemotherapy sessions," the relative said when met at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) yesterday.
"The HSA ambulance personnel who responded to the call said the victims died some three hours prior to the discovery.
"Strangulation marks were seen on the daughter's neck," he said.
Supt Beh said during the time of the incident, her husband was out working while two other children, aged 16 and 19, were out buying school supplies at a shopping mall in Tampoi.
"The shocking discovery was made when her husband and children arrived home that night," he said, adding that the case was classified as sudden death and murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
It is learnt that the body of Sumathi and Arthhinee will be brought to Nirvana Memorial Park in Kulai for funeral rites.
In October, a couple was found dead in a double-storey house here after the father was believed to have strangled his two children.
Liquor trader R. Pubalan, 52, was found hanged from the ceiling in a bedroom while the body of his wife P. Jeya, 42, a kidney failure patient, was located in the living room.
Also dead were their son P. Sharveen, 14, and nine-year-old daughter Krishaan Priteena.
