KUALA LUMPUR - The pilot of the private helicopter which crashed in Semenyih was known to be a "very safe pilot", said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
"He is a great guy and a very safe pilot," said Khairy about the 40-something Capt Clifford Fournier, whom he knew as a personal friend.
"He taught me how to fly. He was my flying instructor and taught me to fly the helicopter. We flew together to Johor last month," he said of their last meeting.
Khairy said Capt Fournier was an American who had been in Malaysia for many years.
Capt Fournier was a director and senior pilot of Solaire Sdn Bhd and owner of Chempaka Aviation.
He leaves behind a wife and four children, Khairy said.
